Erick Thohir projects state-owned hospital holding to generate Rp 5 trillion in revenue

10 January 2020 11:46

JAKARTA. Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Erick Thohir plans to establish a hospital holding, with projected revenue of Rp 5 trillion per year.

Thohir explained that the plan was still being discussed internally in SOEs. This holding will also consolidate hospitals owned by state-owned companies. "The owners will be SOEs who have hospitals," Thohir explained, as quoted by Kontan on Thursday (9/1) yesterday.

In addition, Thohir admitted that SOEs have their own hospitals. Moreover, every company has a business focus in different sectors. Ranging from plantations, agriculture, to energy.

"Just imagine, why should Pertamina, for example, focus on its hospital business. Whereas Pertamina's main focus is oil and gas (migas), "said Thohir.

The unification of SOEs' hospital business, said Thohir, will later be able to assist the government in reducing the value of the current account deficit in the health sector, which has reached US$ 6 billion. (KR/AR)
