Chick culling fails to rise the price of chickens

10 January 2020 14:50

JAKARTA. Chick culling is considered to have failed to solve the oversupply problem and weak demand in the market at the end of 2019, but is believed to be able to maintain the stability of prices.

Riyanto Hartanto and Adrian Joezer, analysts from Mandiri Sekuritas, said that PT Japfa Comfeed Indonesia Tbk (JPFA) recorded a 13% decline in the price of Broiler chickens Month to Month (MoM) to Rp 5,100 per kg in December 2019. Meanwhile, DOC chicken prices fell by 4% to the level of Rp 17,900 per kg.

"The decline in broiler chicken prices on an MoM basis in December is the first one since 2014," Hartanto and Joezer said in their research report.

Nevertheless, the price of broiler and DOC chicken over the coming 12 months is expected to be stable because the government has done chick culling. (KR/AR)
