WeChat Pay will cooperate with CIMB Niaga in Indonesia

13 January 2020 07:19

JAKARTA. WeChat Pay, the digital payment platform owned by WeChat, has officially commenced its operations in Indonesia, cooperating with PT Bank CIMB Niaga Tbk (BNGA).

Sugeng, Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia, said that the permit for WeChat Pay was effective from the beginning of this year. "WeChat Pay is now legal," Sugeng was quoted as saying by Kontan on Monday (13/1) today.

The permit was given to WeChat Pay because it chose BNGA as its partner. BNGA itself, said Sugeng, has become a Business Group Commercial Bank (BUKU) IV.

In addition, WeChat can also connect its payment system with Quick Response Indonesian Standard (QRIS). In Indonesia, WeChat Pay is quite widely used by foreign tourists, especially from China, for making transactions in Indonesia. (KR/AR)
