JAKARTA. PT Bintan Alumina Indonesia (BAI) has invested Rp 4.9 trillion as of January 2020 for the construction of a smelter in Bintan, 32.67% of the company's investment projection until the end of 2020.

Hasfarizal, Head of the One Stop Integrated Service (PTSP) office in Bintan, said BAI had started operating in the Special Economic Zone (KEK) of Bintan since 2017. "This is a large-scale investment," Hasfarizal was quoted as saying by Bisnis Indonesia on Monday (13/1).

According to information compiled by idnfinancials.com, BAI has completed the dock for the smelter facility. The company also estimates that alumina exports can begin in 2021 with a volume of 1 million tons.

In addition, BAI will also build a Steam Power Plant (PLTU) with a capacity of 2,000 megawatts (MW). This facility is considered important to supply the electricity for the alumina processing plants. (KR/AR)
