JAKARTA. PT PP (Persero) Tbk (PTPP) is partnering China Aluminum International Engineering Corp Ltd (Chalieco) to develop a Rp 11.56 trillion smelter grade alumina refinery project.

The contract was signed at the Indonesian Embassy in Beijing on January 11, 2020 by PTPP COO 3 Abdul Haris Tatang accompanied by Head of EPC Division Nurlistyo Hadi.

"In the development of the smelter project, the company is partnering Chalieco, which will be involved as a contractor responsible for the completion of the project," said Mr Tatang in an official statement, Friday (17/1).

The smelter, which will have a capacity of 1 million TPA, is owned by PT Borneo Alumina Indonesia (BAI), a joint venture between PT Inalum (Persero) and PT Aneka Tambang (Persero) Tbk (ANTM). PTPP and Chalieco seek to complete the project within 31 months. The project is located in Bukit Batu Village, Sungai Kunyit, Mempawah Regency, West Kalimantan.

The smelter is expected to lessen Indonesia's dependency on imported raw materials and increase the value of local mining commodities. (AM/MS)
