LABUAN BAJO - A logistics or multipurpose special port will be built in the Waikelambu area, West Manggarai, Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara.

"Today I went to Waikelambu, West Manggarai Komodo District, indeed we are interested in building a port for logistics. Because in the old port there were 2 activities, namely for passengers and logistics, so it was less than optimal," explained Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi during his visit to Labuan Bajo (19/1).

With the construction of the Port which is located about 15 Km from the location of the old or existing port, logistics distribution is expected to run faster and smoother. This logistics port will be built with a capacity of up to 100,000 TEUs. The Minister of Transportation said, although at present the volume is still 24,000 TEUs, it is believed that in the future it will continue to grow.

The location of the Logistics Port which will be built is only 19 minutes travel time from Komodo Airport and 30 minutes from the existing Labuan Bajo Port. The construction work will be carried out multi-years but for the initial phase it is targeted to be completed in December 2020 with a budget prepared for Phase I of Rp 200 billion. (LM)
