JAKARTA - The government is prioritising the development of export-oriented industries to lower the trade balance deficit and the current account deficit (CAD).

“As we all know, the contribution of the manufacturing sector constantly dominates the national export,” said Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita in an official statement, Friday (17/1).

“One of the government’s points is giving special attention to the development of the manufacturing industry.”

According to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), in 2019 exports from the manufacturing industry were valued at US$ 126.57 billion, 75.5% of the year’s total export value of US$ 167.53 billion.

“We have the Making Indonesia 4.0 roadmap, which serves as our strategy to prepare for the Industry 4.0 era. Through the roadmap, we will also increase the contribution of our net export to the GDP,” said Mr Kartasasmita. (MS)
