JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry has mapped 15 prioritised industrial sectors for export development.

The 15 sectors are palm oil and its derivatives; food; paper and its derivatives; crumb rubber, tire, and rubber gloves; wood and its derivatives; textile; footwear; cosmetics; soap and cleansing agents; four-wheeled vehicles; electric cables; pipes; agricultural machinery; consumption electronics; jewelry; and crafts.

“There are a number of challenges that need to be resolved to increase the competitiveness of our industries, such as maintaining the availability of raw materials and components,” said Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita in an official statement, Friday (17/1).

“We also need to deepen industrial structures, optimise the use of local content, and encourage the development of industrial areas including MSME centres.”

The Ministry, Mr Kartasasmita added, is also focusing on attracting investment in sectors that produce import substitutes and carry out downstreaming. Among others, the government will push for the mandatory use of B-30 and strengthen PT Trans-Pacific Petrochemical Indotama (TPPI) to reduce petrochemical imports. (MS)
