20 January 2020 14:25

JAKARTA - The government is scheduled to submit the Job Creation Omnibus Bill to the House of Representatives on Tuesday (21/1).

According to Secretary to the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs Susiwijono, the bill was initiated by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s vision to create more jobs in the formal sector. According to data from 2019, there are currently 74.1 million informal workers in Indonesia, 52.27% of the total workforce, with 7 million people still unemployed.

“The Job Creation Omnibus Bill needs to be discussed comprehensively, and [the bill] discusses interests of various stakeholders including entrepreneurs, workers, and those who are still unemployed,” said Mr Susiwijono in an official statement, Friday (17/1).

“[The Omnibus Law] is not merely about investment or facilitating foreign investors. Investment is required because it will lead to job creation and the development of existing businesses.” (MS)
