Inaplas projects petrochemical industry to grow by 5.2% in 2020

24 January 2020 07:31

JAKARTA. The Indonesian Olefin, Aromatic and Plastic Industry Association (Inaplas) estimates that the growth of the petrochemical industry in 2020 can reach 5.2%, higher than the realization in 2019 of 5%.

Fajar Budiono, Secretary-General of Inaplas, said that in 2019, the petrochemical industry faced some obstacles despite support from the market. "Though in terms of demand and potential, it is still good enough" explained Budiono as quoted by Kontan on Thursday (23/1) yesterday.

One of the obstacles mentioned by Budiono is a number of regulations made by the government. For example the rules that prohibit the use of disposable plastics in a number of modern markets.

Nevertheless, Inaplas said that there are some policies that can support the petrochemical industry in 2020. One of them is the plan to reduce gas prices to US$ 6 per MMBTU in March. (KR/AR)
