Airlangga: ASEAN has strategic position amid global tensions

28 January 2020 15:35

JAKARTA - Indonesia and ASEAN have strategic positions amid global tensions, said Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto.

“Currently ASEAN is the most stable region in the world, and ASEAN is the only region that experiences economic growth above the global average,” said the Functional Groups (Golkar) Party Chairman in his keynote address at the 43rd MNC Group Manager Forum, Tuesday (28/1).

Thus, he added, the public needs to maintain their optimism because public optimism significantly affects economic advancement.

“The driving force of economic growth is not only fundamental, but also sentimental. Therefore, we must be optimistic,” he said.

In 2020, the government will focus on human resource development, infrastructure development, and regulation simplification through the Omnibus Law—particularly the Job Creation Bill and the Taxation Bill. In terms of human resource development, six sectors will be prioritised, namely agrobusiness, manufacturing, tourism, migrant workers, healthcare workers, and digital economy. (MS)
