Indonesian Customs and Singapore Coast Guard sign MoU to improve border patrol

JAKARTA - The Directorate General of Customs and Excise and the Singapore Police Coast Guard (SPGC) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to improve the Indonesia-Singapore border patrol.

The MoU was signed on Monday (3/2) by Director-General of Customs and Excise Heru Pambudi and SGPC Commander Cheang Keng Keong. Also in attendance were Indonesian Ambassador to Singapore Ngurah Swajaya and Singapore Ambassador to Indonesia Anil Nayar.

“This MoU will serve as the basis for partnership [between both countries] regarding information exchange to prevent and eradicate smuggling and other organised crimes, as well as the basis for collaboration in coordinated sea patrol,” said Mr Pambudi in an official statement on the Ministry of Finance’s website, Wednesday (5/2).

Collaboration between Indonesian Customs and SGPC aim to prevent the smuggling of narcotics, psychotropics, and precursor (NPP) as well as other illegal goods. In addition, both parties will also cooperate to increase human resource capacity through education, training, and capacity building. (MS)
