Ministry of ESDM opens opportunities to the private sector to invest in power plants development in 3T regions

JAKARTA. In an effort to pursue 100% electrification ratio, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) opens opportunities for the private sector to invest in the construction of power plants and transmissions in Frontier, Outermost, and Disadvantaged (3T) regions.

Director-General of Electricity of the Ministry of ESDM, Rida Mulyana, said the government needed private sector involvement, since to reach 100% electrification ratio, Rp 11 trillion of investment is needed. So far, PLN is only able to provide Rp 2.1 trillion.

"It takes almost Rp 11 trillion for 2020. Despite this, PLN is only able to provide Rp. 2.1 trillion. So we are open to private participation of 98.6%," said Rida in the Parliament building, Jakarta on Wednesday (5/2).

Rida also explained that the government had actually prepared a subsidy scheme that had been applied to PLN in building power plants in 3T regions. However, the subsidy cannot be given to the private sector. Thus, the government calls on PLN to contribute in finding and persuading private parties to invest in the construction of power plants in 3T regions. (AM/AR)
