07 February 2020 08:24

JAKARTA. Indonesia's foreign exchange reserves in January 2020 were estimated at US$ 131 billion, 1.39% higher than its record in December 2019 (US$ 129.2 billion).

Enrico Tanuwidjaja, Economist at Bank UOB Indonesia, said the growth was due to the high inflow portfolio. In addition, foreign loans are also still relatively high.

Tanuwidjaja said that the foreign exchange reserves in January 2020 was largely influenced by the sale of global bonds which surpassed US$ 3 billion.

In addition, he stressed that foreign exchange reserves in January 2020, had no influence from certain sentiments, such as the coronavirus, which lately is considered to be affecting the business climate in Indonesia. "There is no relationship between coronavirus with foreign exchange reserves," he explained as quoted by Kontan on Thursday (6/2) yesterday. (KR/AR)
