Ministry of Industry and Japan Corporation transform palm oil waste into paper raw material

10 February 2020 17:35

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry cooperates with Japanese companies to develop pulp and pulp products from waste of Empty Palm Oil Bunches (TKKS). This strategic effort was realized by the Center for Pulp and Paper (BBPK) together with the consortium of PIC Co., Ltd and Taizen Co., Ltd, which are engaged in manufacturing and selling pulp and paper industry machinery.

"This synergy step is carried out through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) program. Mechanically, the technology used is from Taizen Co., Ltd, where the TKKS waste can be used as raw material for the paper and cardboard industry," said the Secretary of the Ministry of Industry Research and Development (BPPI), Restu Yuni Widayati in Jakarta, Monday (10/2).

Restu explained, the PIC & Taizen has brought Taizen technology from Japan to Indonesia to be operated in the BBPK Bandung. It is hoped that the use of this technology can contribute to solving environmental problems in Indonesia, especially for the palm oil industry and the pulp and paper industry.

So far, the pulp and paper industry has contributed significantly to the national economy. The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) noted, in 2019, the paper and paper products, printing and reproduction of the recording media accounted for 3.95% of the non-oil and gas processing industry with a growth of 8.14%.
