KEDIRI - The groundbreaking of the Kediri Airport construction is targeted to be carried out in April 2020. This was conveyed by the Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi after holding the Kediri Airport Development Planning Meeting in the Kediri Regency Government Hall, East Java, Saturday (15/2).

The Minister of Transportation said, the first phase of development is targeted to be completed in the next 2 (two) years, namely in April 2022. "2 years is sufficient time (to complete the construction of phase I), considering the Yogyakarta International Airport in Kulonprogo has been completed within 18-19 months or about 1.5 years," said the Minister of Transportation Budi.

The Minister of Transportation appreciated the good cooperation between the Regional Government in East Java and the private sector in this case PT Gudang Garam in the plan to develop Kediri Airport. For information, this airport construction project uses the Government and Business Cooperation (PPP) scheme with full funding ranging from land acquisition to the airport construction using funds from the private sector namely PT Gudang Garam Tbk.

Kediri Airport is planned to have a 3300x45 m2 runway facility and is equipped with supporting facilities (PKP-PK category) and land side facilities (passenger terminal, cargo terminal, vehicle parking). The construction of the airport is carried out on an area of 450 hectares. At the opening stage of Kediri Airport phase 1, it can accommodate around 1.5 million passengers and runway movement accommodates 8 air traffic movements during rush hour. (LM)
