BPS: Trade balance deficit in January reached US$ 864 billion

JAKARTA. The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) recorded that the trade balance deficit in January 2020 reached US$ 864 million.

Head of BPS, Suhariyanto said on Monday (17/2) that the deficit was smaller than the deficit recorded in January 2019 (US$ 1.06 billion).

The cause of the deficit is the imbalance between export and import. Exports were recorded at US$ 13.41 billion, while imports were recorded at US$ 14.28 billion. Exports declined by 7.16% (on a monthly basis) and by 3.71% (on an annual basis). Meanwhile, imports rose by 1.60% (on a monthly basis) and declined by 4.78% (on an annual basis).

Suhariyanto hopes that the policies made by the government to reduce the trade balance deficit can be implemented properly. "For example, the implementation of B30 and various other policies can run smoothly. So that we can not only reduce the deficit, but also record a surplus," said Suhariyanto. (AM/AR)
