JAKARTA - The Indonesian tourism sector needs to apply an inbound strategy to increase foreign exchange (forex) revenue, says Tourism Minister Wishnutama Kusubandio.

“An inbound strategy will attract more forex revenue and attract overseas tourists to visit Indonesia instead of the other way around,” Mr Kusubandio told the press after a Limited Meeting at the Presidential Office, Monday (17/2).

Regarding connectivity and seat capacity on commercial flights, Mr Kusubandio said that currently the government is trying to increase the seat capacity of commercial flights to Indonesia. As a comparison, flights to Indonesia only have capacity of 25 million seats while flights to Thailand have 57 million, Malaysia 44.8 million, and Singapore 35 million.

“For the record, the 25 million seats have a load factor of 76%, which is higher compared to flights to neighbouring countries,” said Mr Kusubandio.

The government, Mr Kusubandio added, will continue attracting potential tourists from countries targeted by Indonesia’s tourism sector and increase the number of flights to tourist destinations. This also aims to improve the quality of the tourism sector in Indonesia. (MS)
