APSyFI asks the government to protect domestic products

20 February 2020 17:17

JAKARTA. The Indonesian Fiber and Filament Yarn Producers Association (APSyFI) said that the Indonesian government needs to help protect domestic textiles and textile products (TPT) from the rapid waves of import.

Ravi Shankar, Chair of APSyFI, said that the textile industry in Indonesia is currently experiencing difficulties due to the number of imported TPT products and unsynchronized regulations. As a result, said Shankar, TPT prices in the domestic market often fluctuate.

"This is a problem," Shankar explained as reported by Kontan on Wednesday (19/2).

On the other hand, the demand for textile products in the domestic market grew by 6% in 2019, while the textile industry only grew by 1.5%.

Therefore, APSyFI assesses that the Indonesian government needs to make a breakthrough to support the growth of the TPT industry. "Especially in the upstream, which has no new major investment for the past 10 years," Shankar explained. (KR/AR)
