Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway targeted for completion by 2021

24 February 2020 13:24

BANDUNG - Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said he is optimistic the development of the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway project can be completed by late 2021.

“We are focusing on this so that [the project] can commence operation by 2021. I have talked to PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC) and they see no issue [with the target], so we can optimise this,” said Mr Sumadi after monitoring the project operation in Purwakarta and Bandung, West Java on Sunday (23/2).

Currently, said Mr Sumadi, progress of the project has reached 44% while the land acquisition process has reached 99.96%. A plot of land in Bandung is still in the consignment phase.

Furthermore, Mr Sumadi said if the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed train proves to be a success there is a possibility that the track will be extended to Surabaya, East Java.

“I am very proud and delighted that Indonesia’s first high-speed railway project is being carried out using a business-to-business scheme between Indonesian and Chinese private sectors,” said Mr Sumadi.

“This is an ideal strategic project because it does not overload the State Budget. Just imagine that Indonesia will receive Rp 83 trillion from the private sector through the project.” (MS)
