Plan to impose safeguard on Vietnamese and Indian ceramics is given a positive signal by the government

JAKARTA. The plan to impose Safeguard Measures Import Duty (BMTP) or safeguard on ceramic products made in India and Vietnam, has received a positive signal from the Indonesian government.

Mardjoko, Chair of the Indonesian Trade Security Committee (KPPI), said that his party had provided a recommendation to amend the list of countries exempted from the safeguards. This recommendation has been approved by the Minister of Trade, but is still waiting for an answer from the Minister of Finance.

"Currently in the process of issuing changes to the list of exempted countries as listed in the addendum of PMK No. 119 in 2018, "Mardjoko said as quoted by Kontan on Tuesday (25/2) yesterday.

According to information compiled by idnfinancials.com, the volume of ceramic imports from India increased by 1,156% year on year (YoY) to 16 million cubic meters in 2019, from 1.2 million cubic meters in 2018. Meanwhile, the volume of ceramic imports from Vietnam rose by 25% YoY in the same period. (KR/AR)
