JAKARTA - The South Korean government has expressed interest to take part in the development of Indonesia’s new capital city in North Penajam Paser, East Kalimantan.
This was conveyed by South Korean Environment Minister Cho Myung-rae during a meeting with President Joko Widodo at Merdeka Palace, Tuesday (25/2). In the meeting Mr Widodo was accompanied by Head of the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) Suharso Monoarfa, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, and Deputy Foreign Minister Mahendra Siregar.
“[Mr Cho] has said that South Korea is interested to be involved in the development of the new capital, and the President has welcomed South Korea’s interest,” said Mr Monoarfa in an official statement on the Cabinet Secretariat’s website.
According to Mr Monoarfa, the government is welcoming the planned partnership with South Korea because the country has experience in sustainable green city development.
“They are experienced in green city development as well as sustainable development, and the Environment Minister has background in urban development,” said Mr Monoarfa. (MS)
