JAKARTA. The Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) has asked PT Bio Farma (Persero), the holding company of pharmaceutical SOEs, to produce a coronavirus vaccine so that the spread of the virus can be slowed down.
Arya Sinulingga, Special Staff of the Ministry of SOEs, said that his party had encouraged Bio Farma to prepare the coronavirus vaccine. "What is certain is that pharmaceutical SOEs, Bio Farma, will [be encouraged] to be ready to make vaccines and if they have it, they will try it," Sinulingga explained, as reported by Bisnis Indonesia on Tuesday (3/3) today.
Meanwhile, Amin Subandrio, Head of the Eijkman Molecular Biology Institute, said that his office had coordinated with Bio Farma regarding the development of the coronavirus vaccine.
But this development, said Subandrio, took years. Because the test must be done through various stages, including preclinical testing in animals and clinical trials in humans. (KR/AR)
