Govt focuses on boosting exports from the industrial sector

JAKARTA - The government is  focused on increasing the value of national exports, especially from the industrial sector. It is expected that the export contribution of the manufacturing sector can strengthen the current economic structure. Throughout 2019, the industry made the biggest contribution to reach 126.57 billion US dollars or 75.5% of the achievement of the national export value.

"Therefore, we pay serious attention to the development of export-oriented industrial sectors," Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said as a guest speaker at the 2020 Ministry of Trade Working Meeting in Jakarta, Wednesday (4/3).

The five non-oil and gas processing industry sectors that recorded the highest export value in 2019, namely the food and beverage industry that was able to penetrate up to 27.28 billion US dollars. Then, the basic metal industry amounted to 17.37 billion US dollars, and the textile and apparel industry reached 12.90 billion US dollars. Furthermore, the chemical industry and chemical goods contributed 12.65 billion US dollars, as well as the metal, computer, electronic, optical and electrical equipment industries which contributed US $ 11.91 billion.

The Minister of Industry said, strategic efforts to boost the export value of national industrial products, among others, were carried out through diversification of superior industrial products, aggressively opening new markets, and encouraging investment to make Indonesia as an export base. (LM)
