Bank Mega's NPL ratio rose in 2019 due to one customer's PKPU process

JAKARTA. In 2019, the Non-Performing Loan (NPL) ratio of PT Bank Mega Tbk. rose from 1.60% recorded in 2018 to 2.46%, since one of its customers is undergoing the Suspension of Debt Payment Obligation (PKPU) process.

The customer is engaged in the oil and gas sector.

Based on the company's report, the bank's NPL ratio increased to 2.46%, while its net NPL also rose to 2.25%.

President Director of Bank Mega, Kostaman Thayib said that the bank's NPL ratio rose because there was one customer who had to underwent the PKPU process in 2019. However, Kostman said, the debtor had given up its assets and paid off the loan. Thus, in January 2020, the company's gross NPL improved to 1.2%.

Meanwhile, Credit Director Madi D. Lazuardi explained that the customer is a contractor in the oil & gas sector with a total loan of Rp 600 billion. Madi added that this year the company targets to reduce its NPL ratio to below 1%. (AM/AR)
