JAKARTA - The commercial vehicle industry can drive the growth of the automotive industry and boost national export, said Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita.
“Commercial vehicles play a very important role in infrastructure development in the country,” said Mr Kartasasmita at the opening of the 2020 Gaikindo Indonesia International Commercial Vehicle Expo (GIICOMVEC) at the Jakarta Convention Center, Central Jakarta on Thursday (5/3).
According to Mr Kartasasmita, the Ministry of Industry will continue to boost the performance of the commercial vehicle industry this year, particularly because the automotive industry is one of the five manufacturing sectors prioritised in the Making Indonesia 4.0 roadmap.
“Production of buses, trucks, and pick-ups in 2019 amounted to 241,000 units, while domestic sales throughout the year reached 232,000 units,” said Mr Kartasasmita. In addition, according to Gaikindo data, export of pick-up trucks in the year also surged 15% to 9,187 units. (MS)
