JAKARTA - The Real Sales Index (IPR) in January 2020 was recorded at 217.5, a decrease compared to the December 2019 index of 235.1. The decline was caused by a decrease in sales of the Clothing sub-group and a slowdown in sales of the Parts and Accessories group.

However, the annual retail sales growth in January 2020 slightly improved or grew by -0.3% (yoy) compared to the annual retail sales growth in December 2019 of -0.5% (yoy).

Retail sales are predicted to weaken in February 2020. This is indicated by the February 2020 IPR growth which is forecasted to grow by -1.9% (yoy). The decline was mainly due to a decrease in sales of the Clothing and Information and Communication Equipment sub-group and a slowdown in sales of the Parts and Accessories group as well as Food, Beverage and Tobacco.

The survey results indicate that price pressures at the retail level will increase in the next three months (April 2020), but decrease in the next six months (July 2020). This is reflected in the upcoming 3-month General Price Expectation Index (IEH) of 165.5 (April 2020), higher than 160.2 in the previous month, and the upcoming 6-month IEH of 161.8, (July 2020), lower than 166.0 in the previous month.
