17 March 2020 09:10

JAKARTA - In the midst of rapid development of massive scale infrastructure such as toll roads and dams, the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) also continue to build populist infrastructure, one of which is a suspension bridge. In addition to being an access between villages, the suspension bridge also has the potential to drive the local economy as a tourist attraction.

"The presence of the suspension bridge will facilitate and shorten the access of rural residents to schools, markets, workplaces, administer administration to the village or sub-district office and access to friendship between residents," said PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono some time ago.

In 2019, the Ministry of Public Works and Housing through the Directorate General of Highways has built 166 suspension bridges throughout Indonesia. In 2020, the Ministry of Public Works and Housing will continue to build a suspension bridge to improve connectivity between villages. It is planned that the Ministry of PUPR will build 300 suspension bridges. (LM)
