20 March 2020 09:50

JAKARTA. PT MRT Jakarta recorded a 72% decrease in its number of passengers after the announcement about restrictions on activities outside the home made by the Indonesian government, to anticipate the spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19).

William Sabandar, Director of MRT Jakarta, said the decline was quite significant compared to normal days. "Passengers on Wednesday, 18 March 2020, was only around 28,000 people. [It is significantly lower] when compared in normal days, which may reach 100,000 passengers, "Sabandar explained as quoted by Kontan on Friday (20/3) today.

Sabandar added, the number of passengers could decline more in the coming days. But the company also agrees with the government's call for the public to reduce activities outside the home.

"If you have to leave the house, then make sure to keep your personal hygiene and apply social distancing, especially when riding the MRT," Sabandar explained. (KR/AR)
