JAKARTA. PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk. will try to lower the cost of credit to 2% -2.2% this year.

Finance Director of BRI Haru Koesmahargyo said that last year the bank's cost of credit was recorded at 2.3%, contributed mainly by the manufacturing and textile industries. "This year we will try to maintain credit costs at the level of 2% - 2.2%," he said as quoted by Bisnis on Monday (23/3).

According to him, the company will continue to focus on the micro small and medium business (MSME) segment and other sectors that still have the potential to grow in the current conditions, such as trade and health services. The company will also encourage lending in a number of relatively unaffected areas such as outside Java.

BRI, said Haru, would be more moderate in projecting credit growth. Previously, BRI targeted to record a growth of 10-115.

"To maintain credit quality, we also seek to improve monitoring and restructuring in the affected sectors if needed," he said. (AM/AR)
