24 March 2020 16:30

JAKARTA. Bank Indonesia has asked the public to shift to non-cash transactions during the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.

This was conveyed by BI Governor Perry Warjiyo in a press conference on Tuesday (24/3). "We are encouraging the public to use non-cash payment methods," he said.

To support non-cash transactions, said Mr Warjiyo, BI is facilitating the Bank Indonesia National Clearing System (SKMBI) activities. In addition, BI is also cooperating with non-cash payment system providers in Indonesia.

BI is also in coordination with banks to secure cash in circulation in order to ensure hygiene when the cash is used by the public. (KR/MS)
