JAKARTA. The Indonesian government is advised to provide a fiscal stimulus of up to Rp1,000 trillion to protect the national economy from the impact of the coronavirus (Covid-19).
This was conveyed by Fadhil Hasan, Senior Economist from Indef, through a press conference. "I expect a significant stimulus that can produce a fairly good situation is about Rp 600 trillion to Rp 1,000 trillion," Hasan said as reported by Kontan on Sunday (29/3) yesterday.
Hasan admitted, the stimulus could have an impact on widening the deficit of the State Budget (APBN) to above 5%. However, this can still be overcome by issuing a Government Regulation in Lieu of Law (Perppu).
According to Law No. 17 of 2003, the state budget deficit cannot exceed 3%. (KR/AR)
