JAKARTA. The government will issue bonds for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to cope with the coronavirus (COVID-19) impact.

Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani stated that this is a form of the government's support to MSMEs. Because, said Sri, MSME is a sector that contributed 60.3% of Indonesia's gross domestic product (GDP), and absorbs more than 97% of the total workforce.

According to her, assistance for MSMEs is very important, so that MSME businesses can continue and prevent high unemployment rates.

She explained that the support will be carried out through the placement of government funds in banks, so that banks can have enough liquidity to carry out several policies.

"MSMEs will be our concern. The government will issue bonds that will be distributed to existing MSMEs," said Sri Mulyani during the virtual work meeting with the Commission XI of the House of Representatives, Monday (6/4). (AM/AR)
