COVID-19: Ministry of Transportation to raise airfare upper limit

13 April 2020 10:55

JAKARTA - The government will raise the upper limit of airfares as a response to a policy that mandates all modes of transportation to only carry passengers amounting to 50% of their total capacity amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The tariff increase is stipulated in Minister of Transportation’s Regulation No. PM 18/2020 on Transportation Control to Prevent the Spread of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

According to Director-General for Air Transport Novie Riyanto Rahardjo, the regulation is still being evaluated and thus the Directorate General of Air Transport is still unable to announce any details.

“Airfares will probably double,” Mr Rahardjo told CNN Indonesia, Sunday (12/4).

Currently airfares are regulated in Minister of Transportation’s Decree No. KM 106/2019 on the Upper Limit of Economy Class Airfares for Domestic Scheduled Commercial Flights. (MS)
