JAKARTA. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has announced that coal procurement for the domestic market under the Domestic Market Obligation (DMO) policy reached 31.53 million tonnes in the first quarter of 2020 (Q1).

According to Agung Pribadi, Head of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources' Communication Bureau, the figures are equivalent to 20% of this year's DMO coal target and 22.05% of the national production target.

However, he added that coal demand are still low due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. "The COVID-19 pandemic has caused industrial demand for coal to decline. However, the realisation [in Q1] is enough for domestic demand," said Mr Pribadi in an official statement.

DMO Ocoal realisation in Q1 this year consisted of coal procurement for PT PLN (Persero) amounting to 25.6 million tonnes and for outside the electricity sector amounting to 5.93 million tonnes. (KR/MS)
