JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) proposed the formation of an ASEAN Plus Three (APT) Task Force to provide recommendations to strengthen the resilience of the APT region to face COVID-19 pandemic. This was said by Jokowi when speaking at the Special ASEAN Plus Three Summit through video conference from the Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java, Tuesday (4/14).

"I also suggest that we can form cooperation between the drug and pharmaceutical industries of APT countries, including state-owned companies (SOEs) that produce drugs," said him as quoted from the Setkab.go.id page.

Jokowi stated that China, Japan, and South Korea were among the first countries to face the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, they have more experience on how to deal with the COVID-19 outbreak, which can be shared with ASEAN countries.

"Leaders of APT countries must provide direction to their Ministers of Health to continue to coordinate, including strengthening cooperation in the procurement and production of medical devices and medicines, capacity building of medical personnel under the framework of the Field Epidemiology Training Network, and strengthening research collaboration to create anti-viruses and vaccines," he said.
