JAKARTA. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has officially cut the price of industrial gas to US$ 6 per mmbtu through Ministerial Regulation (Permen ESDM) No. 8 of 2020.

Agung Pribadi, Head of the Communication Bureau of the Ministry of ESDM, said the policy was made after a limited meeting held by the ministry on March 18, 2020. He also explained that the Permen was made after his party coordinated with a number of parties, including the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Industry.

"The high prices have been lowered to or close to US$ 6 depending on the ability to adjust the upstream prices and transportation costs," said Pribadi through an official statement.

Meanwhile, industries which previously received gas prices below US$ 6 per mmbtu, will not feel any changes in the prices.

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources acknowledged that the price reduction would reduce state revenue from gas sales. Therefore, the government requests that users of industrial gas should be more responsible and pay their taxes. (KR/AR)
