20 April 2020 11:22

YOGYAKARTA - The Yogyakarta 6th Operational Area of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) records that occupancy rates of long-distance trains in the region have fallen to 10% due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

“The occupancy rates of long-distance trains have declined very significantly to 10% at the moment,” KAI’s Yogyakarta 6th Operational Area Public Relations Manager Eko Budiyanto told Antara, Sunday (19/4).

Currently there are four long-distance trains stopping in Yogyakarta, namely Bima (Surabaya Gubeng-Solo Balapan-Yogyakarta-Gambir), Kahuripan (Blitar-Purwosari-Lempuyangan-Kiaracondong), Ranggajati (Cirebon-Yogyakarta-Solo Balapan-Surabaya Gubeng-Jember), and Wijayakusuma (Cilacap-Yogyakarta-Solo Balapan-Surabaya-Gubeng-Ketapang).

“While the Sancaka train from Surabaya Gubeng to Yogyakarta is still running, it will be suspended starting from Tuesday (21/4) until April 30 with pending evaluation depending on the conditions,” said Mr Budiyanto.

In addition, the Yogyakarta 6th Operational Area is also adjusting the schedule of the Prambanan Ekspres local train starting from Monday (20/4) so that there are only eight or four return trips daily.

“13 Prameks trips have been cancelled, and passengers are expected to adjust to the updated schedule,” said Mr Budiyanto. (MS)
