JAKARTA - The Ministry of Finance has stated that teacher allowances for 2020 will not be affected by the lowering of budget allocation in this year’s State Budget.
Previously, the government announced that it would lower the Teacher Occupational Allowances from Rp 53.83 trillion to Rp 50.88 trillion as part of budget reallocation to tackle the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
“The adjustment in Presidential Regulation No. 54/2020 will not affect the availability of teacher allowance funds,” said Head of the Ministry of Finance’s Communication and Information Service Bureau Rahayu Puspasari in an official statement, Tuesday (21/4).
The adjustment, said Ms Puspasari, is taking into account the amount of teachers entitled to the allowances according to the Ministry of Education and Culture’s 2020 education principal data to ensure that teachers receive allowances in accordance with applicable regulations.
As of late March 2020, the remaining teacher allowance funds in regional cash reserves for the 2019 budget year are recorded at Rp 2.98 billion. It is expected that the adjustment of budget allocation will not disrupt teaching and learning activities during the COVID-19 pandemic. (MS)
