JAKARTA - The government is preparing a stimulus package for farmers to cushion the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic on the agricultural sector, said Coordinating Economic Minister Airlangga Hartarto.
“Farmers will receive incentives to grow crops after the harvest season,” said Mr Hartarto in a video conference as quoted by CNN Indonesia, Tuesday (21/4).
The mechanism of the stimulus package is still being discussed by a number of stakeholders in the agricultural sector. The government, said Mr Hartarto, is also preparing a number of policies regarding food availability amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Further information will be announced by the Ministry of Agriculture. This will include agricultural infrastructure such as irrigation and maximising the season’s rainfall,” said the Functional Groups (Golkar) Party Chairman. (MS)
