COVID-19: Ministry of Health approves large-scale social restrictions in Greater Surabaya

SURABAYA - The Ministry of Health has approved the implementation of large-scale social restrictions in the Greater Surabaya area, which comprises the City of Surabaya, Sidoarjo Regency, and Gresik Regency to cushion the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

“After a study by our technical team, we have approved the request to impose large-scale social restrictions in the City of Surabaya, Sidoarjo Regency, and Gresik Regency,” said Health Minister Dr Terawan Agus Putranto in an official statement. Tuesday (21/4).

Previously, Dr Putranto approved the implementation of large-scale social restrictions in Jakarta; the City of Bekasi, Bekasi Regency, the City of Bogor, and the City of Depok in West Java; the City of Tangerang, Tangerang Regency, and the City of South Tangerang in Banten; the City of Pekanbaru in Riau; the City of Makassar in South Sulawesi; West Sumatra; the City of Banjarmasin in South Kalimantan; and the City of Tarakan in North Kalimantan.

As of Tuesday, there are 7,135 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Indonesia. 616 people have died, while 842 have recovered from the disease. (MS)
