Only 21.7 million kilolitres of biodiesel absorbed in Q1

JAKARTA. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources recorded that only 2.17 kilolitres of biodiesel were absorbed nationally in the first quarter (Q1) of 2020, 10.6% below the initial target of 2.4 million kilolitres.

According to Hariyanto, Director of Energy Conservation at the Directorate-General of New and Renewable Energy, the realisation was affected by the use of B30, or a mix of 30% biodiesel in diesel fuel. "There has been a decline in demand for B30, which will directly affect the use of biodiesel," said Mr Hariyanto in an official statement.

In January, 699,500 kilolitres of biodiesel were absorbed, followed by 756,960 kilolitres in February and 713,860 kilolitres in March.

However, the ministry said the use of biodiesel increases annually, referring to biodiesel consumption of 2.37 million kilolitres in 2017, 3.55 million kilolitres in 2018, and 6.37 million kilolitres in 2019. (KR/MS)
