JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry continues to spur the growth of the domestic coffee processing industry. This is in line with the downstreaming steps that can increase the added value of the Nusantara coffee commodity. In addition, this effort also encourages the growth of small and medium industry players (IKM) in the processed coffee sector and increased labor absorption to the national economy.

"The development of the processed coffee industry in the country is still very promising, given the potential of raw materials and government efforts to further optimize the consumption of coffee per capita," said Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita at the Satu Dalam Kopi talk show through a virtual broadcast in Jakarta, Thursday (23 / 4).

The IKM sector has a role in contributing to this significant foreign exchange. Until now, there are 1,204 IKM processed coffee business units spread throughout Indonesia. However, in recent months, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has caused people to change their patterns of activity in their daily lives.

According to Agus, creativity is the key to success in the midst of the depressed national coffee processing business due to declining levels of coffee consumption both domestically and abroad. Creativity also makes the continuity of the coffee processing business maintained amid the threat of bankruptcy due to corona outbreaks. The form of creativity itself is marketing coffee products online in order to reach a wider market and actively conducting local coffee exhibitions online in order to encourage the level of consumption of the community of Indonesian coffee products.
