JAKARTA - House Speaker Puan Maharani has asked the House of Representatives' Legislative Body to delay the discussion on the manpower cluster in the Job Creation Omnibus Bill as the government focuses on handling the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

“On this occasion, on behalf of the speakers of the House, I would like to ask that the Legislative Body postpone the discussion on the manpower cluster in the Job Creation Omnibus Bill,” said Ms Maharani at the House’s Nusantara III Building as quoted by Tirto.id, Thursday (23/4).

Currently, said the Indonesian Democratic Party-Struggle (PDI Perjuangan) politician, all governmental elements are focused on cushioning the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequently the House must focus on legislative, supervisory, and budgetary functions relevant to the pandemic handling. She added that for the time being the House must take into account input from the public, particularly labour unions.

“We ask that the Legislative Body refrain from discussing materials in the manpower cluster and take into account public aspiration for the time being,” said Ms Maharani, who is also the daughter of former president Megawati Sukarnoputri. (MS)
