JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing records that toll road traffic in Jakarta, West Java, and Banten has plunged 42%-60% due to large-scale social restrictions imposed to cushion the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

“Current traffic is still dominated by local movement in the Greater Jakarta metropolitan area and logistics movement,” said Head of the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing’s Public Communication Bureau R. Endra Saleh Atmawidjaja in an official statement, Tuesday (28/4).

Toll road sections located in restricted areas in the three provinces are Cawang-Tomang-Pluit, Cawang-Tanjung Priok-East Ancol-Jembatan Tiga/Pluit, JORR Non-S, JORR S, North JORR W2, JORR W2 S, the Prof. Dr. Ir. Sedyatmo toll road, Jakarta-Tangerang, Tangerang-Merak, Kunciran-Serpong, Jakarta-Bogor-Ciawi (Jagorawi), Jakarta-Cikampek, Jakarta-Cikampek II Elevated, Cikampek-Padalarang, and Padalarang-Cileunyi.

The biggest drop occurs on Jakarta-Cikampek and Kunciran-Serpong toll road sections at 60%, followed by the Prof. Dr. Ir. Sedyatmo toll road (which serves as an access road to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport) at 57%. The drops in those sections are mainly caused by the government’s ban on homecoming for this year’s Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr. (MS)
