COVID-19: Traffic on Java national roads plunges 68% due to large-scale social restrictions

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing records that traffic on national roads in Java has plunged 68% due to large-scale social restrictions imposed amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

“Based on the Directorate General of Highways, there have been drops in traffic on national roads in Java, varying from 33% to 89% with an average of 68%, due to large-scale social restrictions,” said Head of the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housings’ Communication Bureau Endra S. Atmawidjaja in an official statement, Wednesday (29/4).

The biggest drop in traffic, said Mr Atmawidjaja, occurs on the City of Nganjuk-Kertosono road in Java with 89%, followed by Simpangtiga Jeruklegi-City of Cilacap in Central Java with 88% and the Siliwangi road in Semarang, Central Java with 84%. (MS)
