COVID-19: AirAsia Indonesia applies for tax incentives for staff

JAKARTA - PT AirAsia Indonesia Tbk (CMPP) is making effort to apply for tax incentives for staff in the form of a cut in Article 21 of the Income Tax amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, said CEO Veranita Yosephine Sinaga.

This, said Ms Sinaga, is part of AirAsia Indonesia’s effort to ensure employees’ welfare during the pandemic due to the low-cost carrier (LCC) having slashed working hours by up to 75% and cut salaries across all levels.

“Staff have taken salary cuts, myself included. I have taken a 50% salary cut at the management’s expense. Those below me have taken various percentages of pay cuts based on seniority,” Ms Sinaga told CNN Indonesia, Monday (4/5).

In addition, Ms Sinaga affirmed that termination is the last option amid the company’s woes during the pandemic. She added that the AirAsia Group subsidiary is also trying to pay staff’s holiday allowances for this year’s Eid-ul-Fitr.

“I am calculating holiday allowances at the moment. The management sees termination as the last solution. We have made a deal with employees,” said Ms Sinaga. (MS)
