DUBAI - Expo 2020 Dubai is set to be delayed to 2021 due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, said the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) on Monday (4/5).

As reported by Reuters, over two-thirds of the organisation’s member states have voted to hold the event on October 1, 2021 until March 21, 2022. It was originally due to run from October 20, 2020 to April 10, 2021.

The postponement was first proposed by the United Arab Emirates’ government after participating countries requested a delay due to the pandemic.

Promoting subthemes of Opportunity, Mobility, and Sustainability, Expo 2020 Dubai will emphasise on investments across various sectors including real estate and public affairs. 139 nations have confirmed their participation in the event. (MS)
