JAKARTA. The Ministry of Trade blocked 114 websites of futures brokers that lack legality and have the potential to harm the public.

Agus Suparmanto, Minister of Trade, said that from the beginning of 2020 until the end of April there were 217 websites that had been blocked by the Commodity Futures Trading Regulatory Agency (Bappebti). The blocking, said Suparmanto, was to provide legal certainty for business in Indonesia.

Meanwhile, Tjahya Widayanti, Head of the Commodity Futures Trading Regulatory Agency (Bappebti), said that his party did not only block the illegal futures brokerage website, but it also blocks various channels that are used to support these illegal entities. "Including social media like YouTube," explained Widayanti through an official statement.

Bappebti acknowledged that currently, the pattern of offers made by illegal futures brokers in Indonesia is increasingly varied. They even direct users in Indonesia to open a brokerage account abroad. (KR/AR)
