Airy to cease operations amid battle with COVID-19 pandemic

08 May 2020 12:03

JAKARTA - Budget hotel aggregator Airy will permanently cease operations by the end of May as it fights the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic on the tourism industry.

“We have made our best efforts to overcome the impact of this disaster. However, given a significant technical decline and a reduction in human resources that we have at the moment, we have decided to stop our business in a permanent manner,” said a company email seen by Tech in Asia, Thursday (7/5).

“For this reason, after May 31, 2020, we cannot provide services to all our partners.”

In April the startup terminated around 70% of its staff, despite CEO Louis Alfonso Kodoatie having said in the previous month that Airy was heading towards profitability and confident that the travel industry would recover soon.

“With the right technology and service quality, we are sure that Airy can bounce back faster and have our business recovered as before,” Mr Kodoatie said at the time. (MS)
